Baltimore Vacant Homes Tax: State Lawmakers Demands Action!

According to CBS News, it was agreed upon by all on the City Council of Baltimore what to do about empty houses. During a standard meeting, Councilwoman Odette Ramos brought it up and asked the Maryland General Assembly to make a law about it. The law says that city leaders can decide on a special vacant homes tax that are empty and not being used.

They want the vacant homes tax because it will help fix up 14,000 empty homes.

This is the fourth time that they’ve tried this plan to fix up about 14,000 empty homes and 20,000 empty lots in Baltimore. People who buy a lot of buildings and don’t do anything with them should be stopped by the vacant homes tax that the city council and mayor picked. They hope that taking over these buildings will speed up the process so that the city can fix up the run-down places that are causing problems like crime.
