Violent Arrest Captured in Bodycam Footage

The violent arrest incident occurred on July 13, 2022, just before midnight, in Palmdale, California, and was captured by bodycam footage.

The traffic stop was initiated by Palmdale Station deputies after they noticed a vehicle driving at night without headlights, a clear violation of traffic regulations.

According to CBS News, the bodycam footage shows deputies approaching the vehicle and detecting the smell of alcohol emanating from within. They discovered four women inside the car, each holding an infant in their arms without the use of proper child car seats.

Concerned for the safety of the infants and considering the potential endangerment they faced, the deputies made the discretionary decision to arrest all the passengers, including the driver, on charges of felony child endangerment.

The bodycam footage also shows the male driver being arrested for driving with a suspended license and under the influence of alcohol. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, additional deputies and a supervising sergeant were called in to assist with the traffic stop.

Unfortunately, as the arrests of the women were being carried out, a distressing use of force took place.

The bodycam footage reveals two of the women involved in the arrest were subjected to physical force in an attempt to gain control of the infants and effect the arrest.  A deputy resorted to punching a female suspect twice in the face. The woman happened to be holding a three-week-old infant who she was unwilling to let go of.

The release of this bodycam footage comes amid increased scrutiny of law enforcement practices, particularly concerning the use of force.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, who assumed office after the incident occurred, expressed his strong disapproval of the deputy’s actions.

After seeing the bodycam footage, he emphasized that the punching of the woman in these circumstances was entirely unacceptable. Sheriff Luna wasted no time in taking action, swiftly initiating an investigation by the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau.

Sheriff Luna, while unable to disclose the disciplinary actions taken against the deputy due to state law, assured the community that the deputy involved had been removed from active duty, USA Crime reported.

Both the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the FBI’s Los Angeles office will conduct independent investigations into the incident to ensure a thorough examination of the matter.
