The California Labor Commissioner’s Office reached a $5.5 million wage theft lawsuit settlement against Adat Shalom Board and Care Inc. This is to compensate the 148 caregivers who worked under Adat Shalom Board and Care Inc.’s six adult care facilities in LA.

The Labor Commissioner’s Office Reached A $5.5 Million Wage Theft Lawsuit Settlement

SOURCE– The California Labor Commissioner’s Office reached a $5.5M wage theft settlement against Adat Shalom Board and Care Inc. to compensate the 148 caregivers who worked at Adat Shalom’s six adult care facilities in Los Angeles.

In the settlement filed by the Labor Commissioner’s Office, the employees of Adat Shalom Board and Care cared for elderly residents 24 hours a day and 6 days a week. However, they were only paid for 6 hours each day.

The first payment, worth $2 million under the settlement agreement filed by the Labor Commissioner’s Office, was already distributed to the caregivers.

The Labor Commissioner’s Office First Opened Its Investigation In 2017 After Receiving A Report of Labor Law Violations

The California Labor Commissioner’s Office first opened the investigation into Adat Shalom Board and Care Inc. in June 2017 after receiving a report of labor law violations from the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC). The Labor Commissioner’s Office issued citations in 2018.

According to Insurance Journal, Angelica Reingold, the owner of Adat Shalom Board and Care, appealed the citations, which were upheld in 2021. Later on, the Labor Commissioner’s Office filed a lawsuit to reverse the transfer of assets, which resulted in the $5.5 million wage theft settlement.
