Colorado E-Bike Rebate Program Kicks Off in August

Thanks to the passage of SB22-193, the Colorado e-bike rebate program aims to make e-bikes more accessible to low- and moderate-income Coloradans, encouraging a shift away from traditional car usage and reducing carbon emissions, a published news article reported.

The Colorado e-bike rebate program is expected to be a game-changer for many residents, providing financial assistance for the purchase of e-bikes.

Ari Rosenblum, a spokesperson for the Colorado Energy Office (CEO), emphasized the importance of e-bikes in addressing transportation-related emissions. “Roughly 60% of car trips are under six miles long and 75% are under 10 miles long. With transportation leading in emissions as well as the fact that a majority of car trips are short trips, e-bikes offer an excellent alternative to get people where they need to go,” said Rosenblum.

The Colorado e-bike rebate program is expected to not only make environmentally-friendly transportation options more affordable but also broaden access to e-bikes for those who might not have considered them otherwise.

By incentivizing e-bike usage, Colorado aims to contribute to a cleaner environment and improve the overall well-being of its residents.

Who is Eligible for Colorado E-Bike Rebate Program?

To be eligible for the Colorado e-bike rebate program, applicants must meet certain income qualifications.

The Colorado Energy Office will determine eligibility based on the Area Median Income (AMI) index in the county of the applicant’s residence.

For the low-income rebate, a household’s income must be below 80% of the AMI, while for the moderate-income rebate, it must fall between 80% to 100% of the AMI.

Depending on an individual’s income, they can receive vouchers ranging from $500 to over $1,000, making e-bikes a more affordable and attractive option for short-distance commuting and transportation needs.

To ensure a fair distribution of the Colorado e-bike rebate program and maximize access, the CEO will open applications for one week each month.

Following the application period, individuals will be randomly selected to receive the Colorado e-bike rebate program, departing from the first-come-first-served approach of Denver’s e-bike rebate program.

According to Colorado Energy Office, the demand for e-bikes in Denver is evident, with 20,000 people already subscribed to receive alerts when vouchers become available.

However, the statewide program presents a broader opportunity for individuals living in Denver and Boulder, as they can apply for both the local and statewide programs, although they cannot receive vouchers from both.
