Two teenagers from Washington, D.C., found themselves in trouble 50 miles from home where they were arrested during a burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia. Authorities are investigating the crime.

Burglary Attempt in Fauquier County Virginia

The burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia occurred when Fauquier County sheriff’s deputies stumbled upon the two teens outside the Dumfries Market on a Sunday night.

The scene of the burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia was the Dumfries Market and gas station, in the 4200 block of Dumfries Road, according to Jeffrey Long, the spokesperson for the Fauquier County sheriff’s office.

According to the Washington Post, although the store was closed at that late hour, an alert employee was cleaning up inside. When the glass doors broke, the employee swiftly observed two young individuals attempting to break in.

Without hesitation, the employee dialed 911, and law enforcement officers arrived on the scene of the burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia almost immediately.

The 15-year-old and 16-year-old boys were caught red-handed, standing amidst the shattered glass doors of the closed convenience store, a menacing metal pipe at their feet. It was a burglary in progress, no less.

Jeffrey Long admitted, “We’re still trying to figure that out.” Long disclosed that one of the youths hails from Northeast Washington, while the other resides in Southeast. Investigators are still piecing together the puzzle of where the two bicycles were rented.

Suspects Arrested in Burglary Attempt in Fauquier County Virginia

One of the suspect teenagers of the burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia froze in his tracks upon receiving the command to do so. The other, however, leaped onto one of the unmistakable red rental bikes provided by Capital Bikeshare and pedaled away. His escape bid was short-lived as he was swiftly arrested by the pursuing deputies.

Both teenagers were subsequently transported to a juvenile detention center and charged as minors with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, and destruction of property, according to Long.

Due to their age, their identities were not disclosed.

“There are some indicators,” Long stated, “that the boys rode quite a long distance before their arrests.”  Furthermore, one of the teens had been reported missing, suggesting he may have run away two days before the burglary attempt in Fauquier County Virginia.

As of now, authorities are eagerly awaiting information from Capital Bikeshare to definitively establish the origin of the rented bicycles.
