Austin City To Discuss ‘Legal Issues’ with the Death Star Bill
In a report from Austin America-Statesmen, Austin City council is set to talk about the Death Star’s ‘legal issues’ in a closed door meeting scheduled today.
One of the issues that had been linked with the death star bill were about local ordinances. For example, once the Death Star bill will take effect on September, mandated water breaks for workers will no longer be enforced. Aside from that, lawmakers were also worried that the eviction protection for renters will also be abolished.

Overall, the Death Star bill will regulate the power of local cities and counties. The local ordinances which contradicts or was not in line under state code will be voided.
In Austin, several local ordinances will be affected like the above mandated water breaks and eviction protection.
Other Cities like Houston had filed their law suits early in July against the Death Star Bill.
In a statement from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, he mentioned that the Death Star Bill “reverses over 100 years of Texas constitutional law”.
