Former Security Detail Member’s Startling Testimony: Alleged Police Interference and Suspected Conspiracy in Malcolm X Assassination
Mustafa Hassan, a former member of Malcolm X‘s security detail, revealed at a news conference in New York that he witnessed New York City police officers attempting to prevent supporters from restraining a man believed to be involved in Malcolm X’s assassination in 1965. The man in question was Talmadge Hayer, also known as Mujahid Abdul Halim, who was later arrested and convicted for the killing.
Hassan asserted that he believes there was a conspiracy involving the New York City Police Department, the CIA, and the FBI in the assassination of Malcolm X. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing Hassan and Malcolm X’s family, filed a multimillion-dollar federal action accusing the FBI, the CIA, and the NYPD of fraudulent concealment of evidence related to the murder.

Key Revelations in Malcolm X Assassination Case: Informants Withheld Information, Allegations of Police Interference, and $26 Million Settlement for Wrongfully Convicted
According to CNN, the FBI had several informants present at the Audubon Ballroom, where Malcolm X was assassinated, but their information was withheld and kept secret. Hassan chose to come forward now after learning online that Malcolm X’s family was seeking a financial settlement from the government for alleged involvement in the assassination.
During the news conference, Hassan described how, after Malcolm X was shot, he witnessed the man he believed to be involved in the assassination being restrained by Malcolm’s followers. Police arrived on the scene and questioned whether the man was affiliated with them while holding back the followers. Hassan and Crump shared a photo showing the moment Hassan grabbed Hayer’s collar.
In 2021, the convictions of two other men involved in the assassination, Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam were vacated after evidence of their innocence, including FBI documents, was found to have been withheld at trial. New York City agreed to pay $26 million in settlements on behalf of Aziz and Islam.
