A Rhode Island Roman Catholic priest was sentenced to six years in federal prison for downloading massive child sexual abuse materials.

Roman Catholic Priest Gets 6 Years In Federal Prison

SOURCE– Rev. James W. Jackson, a 68-year-old former Roman Catholic priest assigned to St. Mary’s Church in Providence, was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for possessing thousands of images of child sexual abuse materials.

The former Roman Catholic priest admitted to a federal judge earlier this year that he downloaded and stored those child pornographic materials. The investigation into former Roman Catholic priest Jackson began in September 2021.

A detective from East Providence Police Department was able to identify an IP address assigned to the rectory at St. Mary’s Church in Providence, where Roman Catholic Priest Jackson was assigned, and this was being utilized to share files of child sexual abuse materials.

12,000 Images And 1,300 Videos Of Child Sexual Abuse Was Discovered On Roman Catholic Priest Jackson’s Devices

After identifying the IP address, the authorities searched for a digital device and computer in the church rectory bedroom that the Roman Catholic priest was using. In the church rectory bedroom, they discovered videos and images of thousands of child sexual abuse materials.

According to AP News, a forensic audit of the devices used by Roman Catholic priest Jackson subsequently identified over 1,300 videos and 12,000 images of child sexual abuse. On Thursday, the lawyer of the former Roman Catholic priest James Jackson said that Jackson expressed genuine sorrow and remorse for his actions and those impacted by them.
