Humanity Living in Mars is Drawing Closer to Reality
The Mars Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring and settling Mars, has announced a new initiative called the Mars Technology Institute (MTI). According to a published article in Space, this institute will focus on developing the technology needed for the plan of humanity living in Mars. As private companies like SpaceX work on transportation to Mars, the MTI will tackle the task of creating the infrastructure necessary for prolonged stays on the Red Planet.
Mars Society President Robert Zubrin highlighted the importance of utilizing resources for humanity living in Mars like materials for construction, fuel, and even food.
However, to achieve this, we need advanced technology.

Challenges for the Future Humanity Living in Mars
According to sources, the Mars Society identified three main challenges for the future humanity living in Mars:
- addressing labor shortages with robots and AI,
- finding energy sources like advanced nuclear or fusion power,
- and solving agricultural constraints through biotechnology and innovative farming methods.
The MTI, with its team of experts, is initially focusing on biotech solutions because they are more financially feasible.
Mars poses unique challenges due to its limited sunlight and harsh conditions, making biotechnology essential. Solving these challenges not only enables the humanity living in Mars but also has the potential to improve agriculture on Earth. The Mars Technology Institute’s establishment is a significant step toward making Mars a reality for future generations, showing that space exploration can also benefit our home planet.
