Controversy Erupts Over California Bill Allowing Illegal Immigrants Access to Homebuying Program

Just the News – In California, there is a big debate brewing over a proposed law called Assembly Bill 1840. This law would let illegal immigrants take part in a special program that helps people buy homes with no down payment and no payments on the loan. State Sen. Bria Dahl thinks it is not fair to give this help to people who are in the country illegally. He says it is better to help those who are here legally first. At the same time, there are worries about more illegal immigrants coming into California especially with tighter security on the Texas border. This could put a strain on things like healthcare and unemployment benefits which the state already provides to illegal immigrants. The expansion of the states healthcare system to cover more illegal immigrants is expected to cost a lot of money $3.4 billion to be exact.
