Costs of Durham and Hur investigations
The Department of Justice also disclosed reports detailing the recent expenses incurred by special counsels John Durham and Robert Hur aside from Special Counsel Jack Smith’s expenses.
Durham, who former Attorney General William Barr appointed to investigate allegations of ties between former President Trump and Russia, spent $1.1 million during the final six months of his investigation. Most of these funds were allocated to personnel payments, with an additional $59,000 utilized by other DOJ agencies.
Durham concluded his investigation in May, publishing a scathing report that found insufficient evidence to support the opening of the case. He criticized the FBI for relying on “raw, unanalyzed, and uncorroborated intelligence,” describing their investigation as “seriously deficient.”
Hur, appointed by Attorney General Garland to probe President Biden’s handling of classified documents, has expended $615,000 since mid-January on the inquiry. However, more than $570,000 was contributed by other Justice Department agencies involved in the investigation, bringing the total cost to nearly $1.2 million.
As of now, Hur has not filed any charges in connection with his investigation.
