According to FOX News report, It was agreed upon that Jackson County, Missouri, the second-largest county in the state, would pay the parents of Marquis Wagner, who died in jail in 2021. Wagner was 21 years old. It costs $1.2 million. According to the lawsuit, Wagner, who had a history of mental health issues, frequently yelled “I can’t breathe” as jail staff restrained him and put him in a chair. The lawsuit was about two hired healthcare companies, but they were not part of the deal. The county is, however. For some reason, Wagner shot through the door of his apartment because he thought someone was getting in. He was then arrested. It was said that he wasn’t given a mental health exam and wasn’t given anything to eat or drink for eight hours before the fatal event. This happened even though he was showing signs of being in a lot of mental pain. It will be time for the hearing in September for the case against the healthcare companies. Since the disagreement is still going on, the Jackson County Sheriff won’t say anything else. The county had already reached a deal in 2017 over a disagreement that involved a death that happened in a jail restraint chair.
