New Horizons Pluto Mission: 17 Years of Solar System Exploration Faces Budget Struggles as NASA Considers Team Replacement to Save $3 Million

For 17 years, the New Horizons spacecraft has been a space trailblazer, zipping through our solar system at incredible speeds. Launched in 2006, it amazed us with close-up views of Pluto and its moon in 2015, followed by a visit to the distant Kuiper Belt Object (KBO) Arrokoth in 2019. This New Horizons Pluto Mission encounters provided valuable data that reshaped our understanding of space.

According to Space, NASA’s plan to tighten the budget for the upcoming year is causing some trouble. They want to save about $3 million by replacing the current team working on New Horizons Pluto Mission with a new one. This decision doesn’t sit well with Dr. Alan Stern, who has been leading the mission from the start. He believes the mission’s potential is being cut short and that the money spent so far would go to waste.
