An investigation was started way back in 2020 when the police conducted a search in Brenda Montoya-Cruz’s residence after a report. Upon the welfare check, the 19-year-old Brenda was found dead inside her apartment.

Gonzalez Martines is the New Jersey man and the boyfriend of the deceased teen, Brenda Montoya-Cruz.
Gonzalez Martines was in the apartment when the police conducted the welfare check. He was able to jumped from the second floor when the police entered the apartment. The New Jersey man’s wallet was found inside the apartment, leading to his identification.

New Jersey Man Sentencing Scheduled On September 19
Gonzalez Martines was arrested the next day and was held in o the Union County Jail awaiting trial.
During the autopsy, the cause of the teen’s death was due to asphyxia. The New Jersey man was believed to have strangled his girlfriend to death. His sentencing will be scheduled on September 19 and may face a life sentence.
