Nine of Target’s stores across the country face closure as organized retail theft concerns rise.

On Tuesday, Target announced the closure of one New York store, two Seattle stores, three Bay Area stores, and another three Portland stores by October 21 due to reports of organized retail theft.

According to Forbes, Target’s problems with organized retail theft are difficult to quantify as most police departments struggles to distinguish between organized retail theft and other forms of robbery.

The organized retail theft cases not only threaten the guests but of the staffs as well. The increasing cases of organized retail theft among different retailers this year have been hurting business performance.

Organized Retail Theft Is The Worsening Trend That Emerged Last Year, Says Target CEO Brian Cornell.

In one of USA Today‘s reports, Target CEO Brian Cornell said that organized retail theft has been increasing since last year and that this is not the first time they are calling out organized retail theft as a trend.

The problem regarding organized retail theft is affecting product availability, which creates a less convenient shopping experience.

The Target stores affected by the closure will remain open until October 21, after which employees will be transferred to other stores available.
