Satellite Data Provider SkyWatch: EarthCache Platform

SkyWatch, a Canadian satellite data provider, has introduced an innovative product that merges radar and optical satellite images. According to the report, the company’s EarthCache platform, known for granting users access to commercial satellite data, has responded to the rising demand for combined images. This new approach aims to combine the visual appeal of optical images with the practicality of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, especially when weather conditions hinder traditional optical imaging.

David Proulx, SkyWatch’s Chief Product Officer, emphasized the significance of this development. He noted that much of the Earth’s surface often faces challenges for optical image capture due to weather conditions. The newly introduced service empowers SkyWatch’s EarthCache customers to overlay SAR images onto their existing optical images of the same location. SAR’s unique advantage lies in its ability to capture images regardless of weather, enabling effective monitoring even in cloudy conditions.
