Governor Greg Abbott has made an important announcement regarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Motley County, Texas.

SNAP Benefit Replacements Approved for Motley County

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval to provide SNAP benefit replacements to SNAP recipients who lost or had their food destroyed during severe weather on June 21.

The recent tornadoes and severe weather in Motley County caused significant hardships for many residents in the area. Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude for the support received and emphasized the importance of helping these communities recover and rebuild by approving SNAP benefit replacements for SNAP recipients who lost or had their food destroyed during severe weather, the State of Texas reported.

Michelle Alletto, the HHSC Chief Program and Services Officer, acknowledged the necessity of replacement benefits for Motley County residents as they recuperate from the devastating weather. She expressed hope that these SNAP benefit replacements would provide some peace of mind to those affected.

How to Apply for SNAP Benefit Replacements

Motley County residents who are eligible for SNAP benefit replacements can request by dialing 2-1-1 and selecting option 8 or downloading  Form H1855 (Affidavit for Nonreceipt or Destroyed SNAP Benefits) from the HHSC website. The completed forms should be mailed to Texas Health and Human Services Commission, P.O. Box 149027, Austin, TX, 78714-9027, or faxed to 1-877-447-2839.

It’s essential for SNAP recipients in Motley County who encountered destruction or food loss during the storms on June 21 to apply for SNAP benefit replacements by July 20, 2023.

The SNAP benefit replacements will be promptly placed on the recipients’ Lone Star Cards within two business days. For additional information, individuals can visit HHSC’s Receiving Disaster Assistance webpage.

Due to severe weather and power outages, several HHSC offices in the area have been temporarily closed. Therefore, SNAP recipients are encouraged to request SNAP benefit replacements via phone or online channels for their convenience. For local resources such as food or shelter, individuals can dial 2-1-1 and select option 1 to access the necessary assistance they require.
