SSI Program Recipients to Receive Two Payments in September: $914 Disbursement on Sept 1 and Second Payment on Sept 29

Recipients of the Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program can expect two payments in September, with the first payment of up to $914 for individual filers set to be disbursed on September 1. According to The Washington Examiner, this unusual dual payment schedule is due to a scheduling quirk, as the second payment, replacing October’s payment, will be sent on September 29. This adjustment is necessary because September 30 and October 1 fall on a weekend. Normally, beneficiaries receive one payment per month, but four months each year – March, June, September, and December – see double payments to ensure 12 checks are received annually.

SSI Program Eligibility and Payment Details Revealed: Up to $1,371 Monthly for Couples, $914 for Individuals, $458 for Essential Caregivers

Eligibility for the SSI program requires individuals to be over 65 and meet specific financial criteria. Reports said that those under 65 may also qualify if they have partial blindness or a physical or mental condition severely limiting their daily activities for at least a year or is expected to result in death. Payment amounts vary based on the filing category: eligible couples can receive up to $1,371 per month, independent filers up to $914, and essential individuals caring for SSI recipients can receive up to $458 per month. However, not all recipients receive the maximum payout.

The SSI program was introduced by the administration in January 1974, with payment rates gradually increasing to adjust for cost-of-living changes since 1975. As of now, the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2024 is projected to be around 3% based on June’s data, as reported. Recipients should anticipate the next payment in September and remain mindful of the unique payment schedule during months affected by weekends and holidays.
