China Offers Taiwan Army Lieutenant Colonel $15 Million To Defect Via Helicopter

SOURCE– Chinese spies allegedly offered an Army Lieutenant Colonel money worth $15 million to defect to China, on the condition he did so using the US-made CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. This offer to the army lieutenant colonel prompted Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng to vow to bring such traitors to justice.

The Army lieutenant colonel, surnamed Hsieh was arrested in August by the Taiwan High Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of being recruited by Chinese operatives to defect to China.

Army lieutenant colonel Hsieh reportedly planned to land the helicopter on a People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) warship. China Wants The US-Made CH-47 Chinook Helicopter

According to the National Interest, the Chinese agents asked army lieutenant colonel Hsieh to fly US-made CH-47 Chinook helicopter specifically. It is unclear which vessel the army lieutenant colonel would flown the Chinook helicopter to, but it likely would have been one of the People’s Liberation Army Navy’s (PLAN) two carriers, either the Type 001 Liaoning or the Type 002 Shandong.

Since the Chinook Helicopter always flies with a second pilot and a crew chief, it is unclear what would happen to those crew if army lieutenant colonel Hsieh was able to defect to China using the helicopter.
