This exemption translates to saving approximately $8 for every $100 spent, making it an excellent opportunity for families to save on back-to-school essentials.

According to KWHI, the Texas Comptroller’s Office calculates that shoppers will collectively save a staggering $136 million in state and local sales tax during this year’s Texas Tax-Free Weekend.

To make the most of this Texas Tax-Free Weekend, shoppers can purchase qualifying items both online and in-store.

The tax exemption on the Texas Tax-Free Weekend applies exclusively to purchases made during the sales tax holiday and does not extend to items bought before or after the event. Additionally, there is no option for a tax refund on purchases made outside the designated dates.

While the focus of the Texas tax-free weekend is on back-to-school shopping, it’s also a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to revamp their wardrobe or buy essential items below the price threshold.

It’s essential to note that Texas technically offers three tax-free weekends per year—two in the spring and one in the summer.

The spring tax-free weekends for 2023 have already passed, but consumers can look forward to them again in spring 2024 for emergency preparation and ENERGY STAR items.

These include specific accessories like jewelry, purses, and watches, as well as sporting clothing and gear such as football pants and hockey gloves.
