The First Female Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor, Passes Away At Age 93

The Supreme Court announced on Friday that Sandra Day O’Connor, a former justice who pioneered as the first female member of the court, had passed away. Her age was ninety-three.

Cause Of Death

According to a statement from the court, O’Connor passed away from problems associated with advanced dementia, most likely Alzheimer’s, and a respiratory ailment. Following her dementia diagnosis in 2018, she left the public eye.

When former President Ronald Reagan nominated O’Connor to the Supreme Court in 1981, she became the first female justice in history. She was frequently in the middle of contentious disputes during her 24-year term on the high court and served as an important swing vote in instances regarding abortion and affirmative action.
