The Waltrip High School students were ambushed by what authorities determined to be gang members on the evening of June 24, 1993, and were then raped, tortured, and killed. They had taken a shortcut home via T.C. Jester Park. Four days later, in the sweltering summer heat, their bodies were discovered deteriorating.
Six guys were found guilty of their murders and attacks. Derrick O’Brien, Jose Medellin, Peter Cantu, and Jose Medellin received death sentences; Efrain Perez and Raul Villarreal received life sentences with the possibility of parole; and Venancio.
One of the assailants is interviewed by ABC13 in the show for the first time from behind bars. We were all at fault, Medellin remarked. The girls are remembered now at T.C. Jester by memorial benches. On the ABC 13 app, Roku, FireTV, AppleTV, and GoogleTV, you may watch the show.
