Authorities Launch Intensive Investigation and Manhunt for Suspect in Targeted Hit-and-Run of Migrant Workers in North Carolina Walmart Parking Lot

In a harrowing incident that unfolded at a Walmart parking lot in Lincolnton, North Carolina, six migrant workers were struck by a black SUV in what authorities believe to be an intentional hit-and-run. According to reports, the distressing event occurred on Sunday afternoon, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. According to a press release issued by the Lincolnton Police Department, the SUV deliberately struck the victims before fleeing the scene, leaving them injured and in need of immediate medical attention.

The shocking act of violence was captured on surveillance footage, which was later released by the police. In the video, the SUV is seen pulling into a parking space before suddenly accelerating and careening over a curb, directly targeting the unsuspecting workers. The victims, identified as Jose Calderon, 21; Luis Alcantar, 21; Zalapa Hermosillo, 27; Jorge Lopez, 33; Omar Cordova, 34; and Santiago Baltazar, 35, hailing from El Salvador, Mexico, and potentially another country, were rushed to Atrium Health-Lincoln Hospital for treatment of their various injuries. Thankfully, officials confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening. This was reported in People.

Law Enforcement Pursues Leads and Urges Public Cooperation to Uncover Motive and Capture Suspect; Community Outraged and Demands Greater Safeguards for Migrant Workers

As the community sought answers and justice, the Lincolnton Police Department launched a thorough investigation into the incident. On Monday night, they took a person of interest into custody for questioning. However, the police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect. Authorities are diligently working to determine the motive behind the attack and are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Lincolnton Police Department at (704) 736-8900. Leading the investigation is Detective M. Diallo.

According to the reports, law enforcement officials provided a description of the suspect, describing him as a White male. Additionally, the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was reported to have a luggage rack attached to it. With the assistance of the public, who were shown images and security footage of the vehicle leaving the scene, authorities hope to swiftly apprehend the responsible party and provide closure to the affected migrant workers and their families. The incident has sparked public concern and raised awareness about the challenges faced by migrant workers in the region, prompting calls for increased vigilance and safety measures to protect vulnerable communities.
