Donald Trump, a former president, filed a motion on Thursday to dismiss his $500 million lawsuit against Michael Cohen, his former attorney, without prejudice, allowing him to resubmit the complaint in the future.

Trump Attend The Opening Trial Days

In a statement, Trump’s team said that his current legal and political conflicts, combined with his campaign for president in 2024, are taking up too much of his attention to pursue the litigation at this time.

In order for Trump to attend the opening days of the trial in the New York fraud case brought by state Attorney General Letitia James, the deposition of the former president by Cohen’s attorneys was postponed from Tuesday. This new date was chosen for the deposition.

The lawsuit, according to Cohen’s statement to CBS News, is “nothing more than a retaliatory intimidation tactic, and his attempt to hide from routine discovery procedures confirms as much.”

An Important Witness “Cohen”

Trump has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of falsifying corporate records, but Cohen, a crucial witness in the case, said that Trump’s dishonorable firing “spells the end of this latest attempt to deter me from giving truthful testimony against him.”

“Once President Trump has won the battle against the witch hunts against him, he will pursue his claims against Michael Cohen, who deserves to, and will be held accountable for his illegal statements and deeds just like the Southern District of New York did.

“It appears he is terrified by his looming legal perils and is trying to send a message to other potential witnesses who are cooperating with prosecutors against him,” Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, said when Trump filed the complaint.

Cohen served as Trump’s attorney and “fixer” until the two fell out in front of a large audience. The $250 million civil fraud case James filed against Trump was strengthened thanks to Cohen’s testimony. This week, Trump made an appearance in court for the trial. Trump has denied doing anything illegal.
