How to Claim Montana Property Tax Rebate

According to US Sun, Montana taxpayers who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the Montana property tax rebate through the TransAction Portal or by using a paper form. It’s crucial to note that the deadline for applications is October 1, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to ease your financial burden.

The Montana property tax rebate will be calculated based on the property taxes you paid in 2022 and 2023. These rebates can be as high as $675 per year, totaling $1,350 for eligible taxpayers. Starting from August 15, eligible taxpayers can begin claiming their rebates.

Governor Greg Gianforte expressed his commitment to easing the property tax burden on Montanans.

Eligibility Criteria and How to Apply for Montana Property Tax Rebate

According to a published article, to be eligible for the Montana property tax rebate, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Ownership and Residency: You must own and live in a Montana property, making it your principal residence for at least seven months each year.
  2. Property Tax Payments: You must have paid property taxes on your residence in the relevant tax year(s).

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you have two options to claim your Montana property tax rebate:

  1. TransAction Portal: The quickest way to submit your claim is online through the  TransAction Portal. This method typically takes 30 days for processing.
  2. Paper Form: Alternatively, you can opt for the paper form submission, but keep in mind that it takes longer to process—approximately 60 days.

For those eager to claim the 2023 property tax rebates, the window to do so opens on August 15, 2024. Be sure to mark this date on your calendar and take advantage of this opportunity to alleviate your property tax burden.
