We the Veterans Foundation Empowers Veterans as Poll Workers to Safeguard Democracy: Expanding Vet the Vote 2023/2024 Campaign for Trustworthy Elections
A group called We the Veterans Foundation, which is nonpartisan and focused on strengthening democracy, is working to involve veterans in a crucial role: poll workers for elections. According to Military, as part of their Vet the Vote 2023/2024 campaign, they’re expanding efforts to bring veterans into the fold. The We the Veterans Foundation are planning events and education programs in different states, aiming to teach veterans and military family members about how elections work, building trust in the process.
Ellen Gustafson, who leads the We the Veterans Foundation, explains that foreign adversaries can exploit any lack of trust in elections. The idea is to counter this by educating veterans about voting, helping them understand, believe in, and spread the word about the integrity of the election system in the U.S. This campaign follows their success in 2022 when over 63,500 veterans and family members volunteered as poll workers to address shortages due to retirements and pandemic-related issues.

Nonpartisan Call to Action: We the Veterans Foundation Urges Veterans to Bridge Election Gaps as Poll Workers for Fair and Smooth Elections
The Vet the Vote campaign emphasizes that it’s not about political affiliations; it’s about citizens stepping up to keep elections fair. According to the published article in Military that by becoming poll workers, veterans bridge gaps in the system. The effort of We the Veterans Foundation is especially crucial as many current poll workers are older and there’s a need for fresh faces. Veterans and military families can fill this gap, contributing to the democratic process and ensuring the elections run smoothly.
If you’re interested in joining as a poll worker, you can reach out to local election offices or Vet the Vote for more information.
