Michigan Proposal Seeks to Aid Homeless Youth with Cash Assistance
According Newsweek – A new proposal in Michigan aims to help young people who are homeless or struggling to find stable housing. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, along with other representatives introduced a financial aid to provide cash assistance for three years to those under 30 including teens who have left their homes. The goal is to give them financial aid for rent or other needs to see if it helps reduce homelessness.

New Approach Proposed to Address Youth Homelessness: Direct Cash Aid Initiative Gains Support
Tlaib says traditional ways of helping haven’t worked well enough so they’re trying something new. They want to give direct cash aid to see if it makes a difference. The bill called the Youth Homelessness Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Act, was created with input from young people who have experienced homelessness themselves. Nonprofit groups are supporting the idea saying it’s time to try new ways to solve the problem. This proposal isn’t just for Michigan it could become a national program. But it’s not certain when it might become law. Tlaib says studies show many young adults have faced homelessness and it’s time to take action to help them build better lives.
