A gunman in Louisville planned a mass shooting of wealthy white people to protest a lack of gun control

At the Old National Bank in Kentucky on April 10, Connor Sturgeon shot and killed five coworkers.

After getting mad about what he saw as weak gun laws, Connor Sturgeon, 25, killed five coworkers and hurt eight others at Louisville’s Old National Bank on April 10. Details from Sturgeon’s journal, which were made public in a police report on Tuesday, showed that he wanted to bring about change by going after white people. Sturgeon shot more than 40 rounds in eight minutes while talking about his mental health problems. As a result of the report’s focus on the urgent need to handle mental health and review gun accessibility, gun control policies are once again being argued.

Who is Connor Sturgeon?

On Monday morning, chaos occurred at Louisville’s Old National Bank as 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, an employee at the bank, opened fire. During a 3 p.m. news conference,  Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel revealed that Sturgeon had a livestream active during the attack. Gunfire was reported at 8:38 a.m., leading to a swift police response. Sturgeon shot at the arriving officers, pushing them to “retreat.” The suspect, Connor Sturgeon, gives way. The chief says his name once during the briefing.

After the shooting at the bank in Louisville, the emotional Kentucky Governor, who knew some of the victims directly, asked people to pray but then turned the attention to criticizing lawmakers, saying they were only looking out for themselves. In his writings, the shooter, Connor Sturgeon, made fun of lawmakers by saying that Democrats were getting rich and that Democrats were helping Republicans. Sturgeon was angry about what he saw as corruption getting in the way of progress. A troubling plan he found in his Notes app suggested he would do terrible things to get political notice. Additionally, Sturgeon said some bad things about the National Rifle Association (NRA), which made people wonder what part personal grudges and political anger played in the sad event.

Police in Kentucky stopped shooting at a bank right away, which totally saved lives.

Connor Sturgeon thanked the NRA in his writings on April 9 for the money they gave him to do what he did. Even though he had never been in trouble with the law, he properly bought the gun in Kentucky and passed a background check. The lack of a “red flag” rule in the state allowed the purchase to go through, even though the buyer had mental health issues that were not shown. The family of Sturgeon is going to sue the gun company. A picture from April 5 shows a scary “joker face,” which is similar to a trend on social media. This shows how online impact can have an effect on behavior in real life.

The police have finished their investigation into what Connor Sturgeon did, and the cop who shot and killed him has been found not guilty of any crimes. Four people were shot and killed at the Louisville bank. They were Joshua Barrick, a senior vice president aged 40, Deana Eckert, an executive administrative officer aged 57, Thomas Elliott, a senior vice president aged 63, and Jim Tutt Jr., a commercial real estate market executive. Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky was friendly with Thomas Elliott the man. Farmer was the only one of the five victims who was Black. People are still talking about gun control and safety at work because of what happened.

The end of the investigation into the mass killing at the Louisville bank shows that it was a terrible event that killed important people and a police officer who shot and killed the suspect, Connor Sturgeon, has been cleared. Particularly, people are still talking about diversity and calling for changes to gun laws and workplace safety, which shows how these events affect society as a whole.
