A wheelchair user who was killed while crossing the road is being mourned by a family on Long Island. The driver that struck him, according to Suffolk County police, was intoxicated.
What Happened?
In memory of their 33-year-old brother who was attacked and killed on Middle Country Road in Coram on Saturday night, Raymond Hubbard’s devastated sisters established a tiny monument on Sunday night.
A picture of Raymond Hubbard in the new wheelchair, which he was never able to show her in person, was provided to Sources. At approximately 10:15 p.m., according to Suffolk County police, he was crossing the street in front of 541 Middle Country Road when he fell out of his wheelchair.
“Just to let you know, I heard that cars were driving around him rather than stopping to aid him after he fell out of his wheelchair and nobody even stopped to put on their hazards and help him out of the street. That’s awful,” remarked Tavina Hubbard.
Who Is The Accused?
Nicholas Doxtader, 25, struck him, according to the police, and he was taken into custody and accused of driving while under the influence of drugs.
The driver, according to sources, was placed on supervised release with requirements regarding alcohol and drugs, weekly in-person reporting, and a Thursday court appearance.
Anyone with information or who may have observed the crash is asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Department, according to detectives.
