Arizona Attorney General Challenges IRS Taxation of Family Rebate
Mayes Battles IRS Taxation of Arizona Family Rebate Funds
Arizona’s Attorney General Kris Mayes wants to stop the IRS from taxing the money people got from last year’s family rebate. He says the IRS is doing something wrong because it didn’t tax similar rebates in other states before. Mayes thinks the money should stay with the people who got it not go to the federal government as taxes. We’re not sure how fast the judge will respond which is a problem because people need to file their taxes by April 15. Mayes’s office plans to ask the judge to stop the IRS from collecting taxes or punishing people who didn’t report the rebate. But if that doesn’t happen people might have to pay taxes now and then get a refund later if Mayes wins the case – Eastern Arizona Courier reported.
