The Arizona Attorney General will investigate the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) over how the department handled sexual assault charges directed against one of the department’s deputies.

SOURCE– The Arizona Attorney General will investigate the PCSD for its handling of a sexual assault case against one of its own former sergeants. The Arizona Attorney General accepted a request from three Pima County supervisors to look into the said sexual assault case.
The three Pima County Supervisors who sent the investigation request to the Arizona Attorney General are Board Supervisors Matt Heinz of District 2, District 4’s Steve Christy, and Sharon Bronson of District 3.
In the letter released on November 3, Jan Lesher, the administrator of Pima County, said that Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and her office will investigate the case.

Pima County Board Of Supervisors Voted In Favor Of Asking Arizona Attorney General To Investigate Why An Internal Investigation Is Taking Too Long
The Board of Supervisors had asked the Arizona Attorney General in September to investigate why the internal investigation into the sexual assault case being handled by the PCSD is taking so long.
After Administrator Lesher released the letter regarding the investigation of the Arizona Attorney General to the PCSD, Sheriff Chris Nanos said that they are always conducting internal investigations. Sheriff Nanos added that whenever the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is handling a case, they wait for the criminal case to end first before starting the internal investigation.
According to an article by Kgun9, the deputy’s organization claims that PCSD’s senior deputies, including one of its lieutenants, had failed to intervene in the alleged sexual assault by one of PCSD’s sergeants, Sergeant Ricardo Garcia, on one of their co-workers.
