Former Ohio police officer Ricky Anderson, a 30-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police, has been charged with murder and reckless homicide in connection with the ‘Donovan Lewis Shot’ case, a fatal shooting of 20-year-old Donovan Lewis in August 2022. According to CNN and People, Lewis, an unarmed Black man, was killed in his bed when officers served a search warrant at his apartment. The ‘Donovan Lewis Shot’ incident occurred as Lewis was wanted on multiple felony charges, including domestic violence, assault, and improper handling of a firearm.
According to the reports, body camera footage reportedly shows Anderson opening Lewis’ bedroom door and almost immediately shooting once, resulting in Lewis’ death, resulting in the ‘Donovan Lewis Shot’ case. Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant mentioned that in the footage, it appeared Lewis was holding a vape pen in his hand, but no weapon was found.
