SOURCE– According to new preliminary 2022 data from the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), life expectancy in the United States rose in 2022. The health scientists and statisticians who wrote the report revealed that it is the first increase since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Despite the increase in life expectancy, it is still not enough to compensate for the loss of life from the virus from the previous years, said the health scientists and statisticians.
The average American life expectancy from birth is 77.5 years, but it increased by 1.1 years in 2022. Health scientists and statisticians found that fewer deaths caused by COVID buoyed much of the increase in the life expectancy in the US.

Fewer People Also Died From Heart Disease And Accidental Injuries, Say Health Scientists
According to PBSO, health scientists and statisticians said that the increase in US life expectancy is “good news,” considering fewer people died from heart diseases and accidental injuries, drug overdose included, than in 2021. Health scientists and statisticians observed that suicide became one of the top reasons why Americans died in 2022, and it increased pretty much across the board.
One of the health scientists who co-authored the report, Elizabeth Arias, said that COVID is still the leading cause of death in the United States. Arias added that life expectancy is now what it was 20 years ago.
