Improving Healthcare Delivery for Participants
According to the article of HSF, Illinois wanted to make sure more people could get healthcare so they decided to give medical coverage to adults aged 42-64, no matter where they’re from. This plan, called the Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) is meant to help people in Illinois stay healthy. The program is managed by Health and Family Services (HFS) and most participants now get their healthcare through managed care starting from January 1, 2024. However, they’re not accepting new applications right now.

Are You Qualified?
If you’re part of the HBIA program you can get a lot of healthcare benefits for free like going to the doctor or getting prescriptions. But for some non-emergency services at hospitals or surgical centers you might have to pay a little bit depending on the managed care organization (MCO). To join the HBIA program you have to meet certain requirements being a certain age, living in Illinois, and not making too much money. It’s important for those who qualify to follow the rules and not try to sign up until they say it’s okay again. Overall, Illinois is working hard to make sure everyone no matter where they’re from can get the healthcare they need to stay well.
