Kansas Tax Battle: GOP’s Flat Tax Plan Hits a Roadblock
Kansas Republicans started the 2024 meeting by passing their flat income tax plan. Governor Laura Kelly quickly said no so the bill went back and forth for almost a month. When the House tried to say yes again they did not have enough votes. They needed two-thirds but only got a little over half.
This mess has been going on since 2023. Republicans want a flat tax but Kelly says its not fair. She thinks it will hurt poor people. Now no one knows what to do. The Senate leader is not sure what will happen next. He is mad that so few people can stop the plan he likes.

Time is running out and both sides want to look good to voters. Democrats say we should try Kellys plan. Its like the Republican one but different. Republicans do not think they can win with the flat tax. Some say we should just change the tax a little and call it a day. But everyone agrees we need to do something. If we do not Kelly says she will make us come back and try again.
