Waste Management Settles Data Breach Lawsuit: Compensation and Protection for Affected Employees

The US Sun – In a recent development, Waste Management a company handling garbage and recycling services across the nation has settled a lawsuit regarding a data breach incident that occurred in 2021. It is been claimed that the company didn’t manage to prevent hackers from accessing employee information, including Social Security numbers during a cyber attack between January 21 and January 23. Although, Waste Management hasn’t admitted to any wrong doing they’ve agreed to resolve the lawsuit. As part of the settlement, individuals who meet certain criteria stand to receive one time payment ranging from $750 to $3,750. Additionally, eligible claimers will benefit from two years of complimentary three-bureau credit monitoring services and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage for certain expenses incurred due to identity theft.

Settlement Terms and Eligibility Criteria for Waste Management Data Breach Compensation

To qualify for the cash one time payment, individuals need to meet specific requirements in the settlement agreement. This resolution aims to address the concerns raised by the data breach incident and provide affected individuals with compensation and measures to safeguard against potential identity theft issues in the future.

Eligibility!

If you got a notice from Waste Management about the settlement, it means you might be eligible for compensation. They sent notices through the mail to everyone involved. If you’re not sure, you can call the Settlement Administrator at 1-877-793-4157. Depending on how much you were affected you could get up to $750 for regular stuff like credit expenses or up to three hours of lost time. That’s about $20 per hour, up to $60 total. But if you had bigger problems like identity theft or fake tax returns because of the breach you could get up to $3,000. To get paid, you need to show proof that you were affected like bank statements or tax documents. You have to submit your claim by March 14, 2024, though so make sure you do it in time.
