Senate Bill 562 Proposes Changes to SNAP Work Requirement in West Virginia
West Virginia Senate passed a bill on February 23, 2024 that could change the rule for who can get help from the government for food that talks SNAP benefits. The bill is called Senate Bill 562. It says that people who can work but do not have kids to take care of should have to work for longer before they can get help from the government for food. But some people did not agree with this bill. They say it might not help the governments goal of getting more people to work.

Various Opinions Surface as Senate Bill 562 Progresses to the West Virginia House of Delegates
A man named Rollen Roberts who is part of the group that made the bill says it is a good plan. He says it is a way to help people who can work but do not have kids to take care of to stop getting help from the government for food. The bill passed in the Senate with a lot of people voting for it but some people voted against it. It will go to another group called the West Virginia House of Delegates.
