According to Kyiv Post (Ukraine’s Global Voice), after Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would run for president in 2024, the White House made jokes. “Well, that’s going to be one humdinger of a horse race, isn’t it?” John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, told reporters on Air Force One. Putin has been in power in Russia since the early 2000s, and the comment seemed harmless, but it was really a sign of cynicism about the upcoming elections.
Putin, who is 71 years old, has won four presidential elections and been prime minister, which makes it hard for views in opposition to gain traction. The White House’s sneaky job comes at a time when people all over the world are criticizing Putin’s leadership, especially Russia’s attack of Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden, who is 81 years old and running for reelection, has said that we need to stop Putin’s actions. Because of Putin’s military action in Ukraine, Biden urged Congress to accept Kyiv’s military aid before the end of the year. The President warned that Putin’s goals could go beyond Ukraine and threaten NATO members, stressing how important it is to strongly resist the Kremlin’s plans in other countries.
