The advancements in DNA technology helped close the 1983 murder case of Noelle Russo, after DNA linked a California man from Lakeport as the main suspect in Russo’s death. The authorities arrested the linked suspect, California man Alfredo Carretero Jr., on Thursday.
The arrested California man, Alfred Carretero, was charged with the death of Noelle Russo in 1983. According to the article written by True Crime Daily, the deputies found the beaten and naked body of Russo on June 27, 1983, in Rohnert Park. The detectives began their investigation in search of Noelle Russo’s killer, which would turn out to be a decades-long search.

California Man Alfredo Carretero, Already On The Original List Of Persons Of Interest In Noelle Russo’s Death, Says Sheriff’s Office
According to NBC News, the Sonoma Sheriff’s Office said the detectives handling the case of Russo had collected a significant amount of evidence as well as identified persons of interest, but no arrests happened during those times.
The sheriff’s office said that from 2010 until earlier this year, investigators sent Santa Clara County Crime Lab and the Serological Research Institute some evidence for DNA analysis. The California man Alfredo Carretero was already on the original list of persons of interest in the Russo case. Later on, the California man was identified as the suspect based on DNA and other evidence, according to the sheriff’s office.
The arrested California man, Alfredo Carretero Jr., is now booked into the Sonoma County Jail. Carretero Jr. is being held without bail.
