Prosecutors stated on Monday that an unknown number of disfigured remains had been discovered in two abandoned cars on a bridge in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, Mexico. One of the cars had a banner with what appeared to be a warning from a strong cartel on it.
The Four Letters
The corpses were discovered on Sunday in Tuxpan, a city close to the Gulf of Mexico. It appears that the body pieces were crammed into Styrofoam coolers on the two trucks.
A printed banner that was placed on the side of a vehicle that contained part of the remains speculated that the victims may have been from Guatemala and attributed the crime to “the four letters,” also known as The Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Police discovered “human anatomical parts” in the cars, according to the prosecution, and lab tests were being conducted by the investigators to ascertain the exact number of victims.
Part of the banner said, “Guatemalans, stop believing in Grupo Sombra and stay in your hometowns,” according to a photo of it that was released by the local media.
Grupo Sombra is fighting Jalisco for territory in the northern region of Veracruz, which includes neighbouring communities like Poza Rica. Grupo Sombra looks to be a section of the now-splintered Gulf cartel.
“Settling Of Scores”
According to the state interior department of Veracruz, the killings seemed to be a “settling of scores” between rival gangs.
The interior department released a statement saying, “This administration has made a point of not allowing the so-called’settling of scores’ between criminal gangs to affect the public peace.” “For that reason, those responsible for the criminal acts between organised crime groups in Tuxpan will be pursued, and a reinforcement of security in the region has begun.”
When the former Zetas cartel was fighting competitors in Veracruz, it was one of the most dangerous states in Mexico; to this day, homicides there have been connected to the Gulf cartel and other gangs.
