Bowling Green and Oak Grove Occupy The Top Spot On The List Of Most Dangerous Cities In Kentucky

Coming first on this list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky is Bowling Green. Bowling Green is a city in south-central Kentucky, housing a population of 71,861 residents. Bowling Green occupying the top spot is not that surprising considering it also ranked first in the list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky in 2022. According to the Southwest Journal, there were 247 reported violent crimes in 2020 alone. 71 of the 247 reported violent crimes were robberies.

The city also suffers from auto theft. In 2020, 317 cases of car theft were reported. Bowling Green ranks seventh in violent crimes and fourth in property crimes. The high rank in both violent and property crimes puts Bowling Green at the top spot on the list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky.

Second on the list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky is Oak Grove. Oak Grove is a city in Christian County, Kentucky, with a population of 7,299 residents. Despite having a smaller population than Bowling Green, Oak Grove suffers greatly from high violent crime rates. In fact, Oak Grove is ranked first in violent crimes in Kentucky this year, with 575 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. Oak Grove residents reported 169 larcenies, 38 burglaries, and 28 car thefts in 2020.

Pikeville And Paducah Rank Third And Fourth, Respectively, On The List Of The Most Dangerous Cities In Kentucky This Year

Pikeville is third on the list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky this year. Pikeville is the county seat of Pike County in Kentucky, with a population of 7,000 residents. Despite its small population, Pikeville, like Oak Grove, also suffers from a high violent crime rate. The city’s assault rate is alarmingly high for a small town like Pikeville; assault occurs at a rate of 1.0 incidents per 1,000 people.

The fourth and last city on this list of the most dangerous cities in Kentucky is Paducah. Paducah is a home rule-class city and the county seat of McCracken County, with a population of 24,000 residents. According to Travel Safe Abroad, the average violent crime rate in the city is 2.9 incidences per 1,000 residents; as per property crimes, it is much higher, with 52.6 crimes per 1,000 residents.
