With its population of 21,726, it’s no surprise that the crime rate in Capitol Hill is high compared to other neighborhoods in Denver. The crime rate on Capitol Hill is 431% higher than the national average. Property crime in this area is rampant, and the most common crimes being experienced by the residents are theft, vehicular theft, and burglaries.

City Park is second on the list of unsafe neighborhoods in Denver. Even with its mere population of 8,202, the crime rate in City Park is 285% higher than the Colorado State average. The most common type of crime in City Park is property crime, with theft being a concern.

Stapleton is third on this list of unsafe neighborhoods in Denver. Stapleton’s population is 19,385 with a crime rate that’s 277% higher than the national average.  Stapleton also has a higher violent crime rate than other neighborhoods in Denver, with a record of 19 shooting incidents in 2022 and 1,400 other reported incidents. Despite the high violent crime rate, residents report feeling safe overall in Stapleton.

Central West Denver is fourth on the list of unsafe neighborhoods in Denver. According to UC Review, the total crime rate in Central West Denver is 8,412 per 100k residents, which means that it is 158% higher than the Colorado state average. Residents of Central West Denver are most likely to fall victim to robberies and break-ins in their homes and cars.

Auraria is the fifth and last addition to this list of unsafe neighborhoods in Denver. Even with its population of 799, Auraria still has a 79% higher crime rate than the national average. Although violent crime in Auraria is rare, theft and loitering are common issues in this area.
